HOME TEAM'S FIRST VICTORY

Keighley succeeded in registering their first victory of the season on Saturday, beating Featherstone after a hard game in which the players were greatly handicapped by the slippery state of the ground. A heavy rain fell most the time, and the attendance would scarcely be more than 1.500. The Rovers were the first to become really dangerous, but smart work by Grey prevented a score. Off-side play spoiled the visitors' efforts, and from a penalty awarded to Keighley Spavin landed a goal after quarter of an hour's play.  Hardly had play been resumed when Spavin, snapping up the ball after Holmes had tackled Burridge, rushed over with try and also added the extra points.  Wynard kicked a penalty goal for Featherstone, and at half-time Keighley led by 7 points to 2.

In the second half Spavin kicked a penalty goal for Keighley, but as Perkins was off-side it was disallowed. The Rovers played up vigorously, and Hirst scored a try, Wynard's kick failing. Near the finish Hey placed the issue beyond doubt by scoring an excellent try for Keighley, Spavin adding the goal.
