ST HELEN’S RECREATION BEAT FEATHERSTONE ROVERS

THREE PLAYERS SENT OFF

 There were two regrettable incidents in an otherwise good game at Featherstone yesterday, when St. Helens Recreation won by five points, a success which they thoroughly deserved. Both incidents happened in the second half, Hepworth was sent for an offence in the scrummage, and later Ramsdale and James Denton were also sent off for striking each other.  In the first half play went almost wholly in favour of the visitors, for whom Greenhall gave a fine exhibition. Mulvaney gave Recreation the lead with a nice try, and Dingsdale’s kick, after hitting the upright, went over. Featherstone improved towards the interval, and James Denton scored a try, the goal kick failng.

Early the second half Greenhall scored with a brilliant effort for the visitors, and Haigh crossed for Featherstone.  Then with only four forwards Featherstone stuck well to their hard task, but Vines got the visitors’ third try.
