Bramley's Late but Successful Rally

Bramley followed up their victory over St. Helens by defeating Featherstone Rovers on the Barley Mow ground. The quality of play never reached a high standard, though it was always keen and interesting. If anything, the visiting forwards were the better lot, inasmuch as they had better control of the ball in the pack, and thus their half-backs were more often in possession.

Fletcher and Marsden, the home half-backs played a strong, sturdy game, and in the last quarter of an hour did much to point the home team’s way to victory. Of the backs, there was little to choose, though those on the Featherstone side seemed have more business like methods. Both sets, however, indulged in much aimless passing, while there was far too much mulling of the final transfer on the Bramley side. The brothers Denton formed a good, strong right wing. McGlone was very harassing half, but both full backs, McGonigle (Bramley) and Burton (Featherstone) were good in parts. At times they saved brilliantly.

Bramley scored early through Harrison, then S.Denton got over almost unopposed the Bramley players presuming he had stepped into touch.  J.Denton kicked the goal.  Featherstone led by two points until fifteen minutes from the end when Marshall and Fletcher scored.
