HULL DEFEATED AT FEATHERSTONE

Three thousand spectators enjoyed an excellently contested game on the Featherstone ground, marked by a wonderful home recovery.  In the first two minutes Batten showed that he is still a great opportunist. He stole a Featherstone pass and made all the running for the try which Bolderson scored.  There followed a lovely effort by Stone, who sold Burton the “dummy” and scored a try, to which Rogers added goal points. So far Hull had been dominant, but the tide began to turn when Williams cleverly seized a chance about 15 yards out and scored a try. Before the interval Sidney Denton snapped up the ball when Stone dropped it, and beat two Hull players for line. The goal kicks failed, and Hull crossed over with a slender lead of two points.

In the second half the Featherstone pack put the Hull six completely in the shade, and following persistent hot attack of about ten minutes, Clements by sheer strength forced his way over for a try. The one point lead was quickly increased by Clements with another try, after fine passing by Barraclough and Haigh. This time Wynard kicked the goal. Before the close Gill outwitted the opposition smartly, and registered a try to which Clements added the goal points.
