FEATHERSTONE ROVERS DEFEAT WIGAN HIGHFIELD

Before 2.000 spectators, at Featherstone, the Rovers gained their second successive league victory. They opened very shakily, and weak defence let in Spencer for a try. Gaskell kicking a goal. The visitors were much more successful than the Rovers in gaining possession from the scrums, but their backs were no match for the cleverness of James Denton and Hirst, and it was fine combination between this pair which reduced the visitors’ lead. Hirst scoring great try. James Denton kicked a penalty goal before the interval.

Crossing over on level terms. Featherstone gave a much improved second half display, and James Denton gave them the lead. Wynard further improving matters by kicking the goal. Lowe scored the visitors’ second try, and with only two points dividing, Featherstone played their best football. James Denton added a try to their score, and kicked a penalty goal.
