WON BY A POINT

Featherstone’s Rally Beats Huddersfield

Huddersfield sacrificed very valuable league points at Featherstone yesterday in a game in which neither side was at full strength, Wagstaff and Gronow (Huddersfield) and Burton and Kinsey (Featherstone), being the most prominent absentees. True, Huddersfield lost only by one point, but if the Rovers had won by a much bigger margin they would not have been flattered.

Huddersfield were outplayed in the second half, and but for Rogers’ brainy play they would have fared very badly. The game never lacked incident, from the time, with but six minutes gone, Hirst gave the Rovers the lead with a try which was not converted. On the play Huddersfield deserved their five points’ lead, at the interval. In the second half, however, they failed badly and their line had many escapes before McGlone crossed it. The Huddersfield forwards were rushed off the ball repeatedly, and the third line, with the exception of Edmondson, were shaky. Featherstone gave no relief and four minutes from the close they had their just reward with a great try by Hirst.

Hirst, on the winning side, and Rogers for the losers, were the outstanding players, with James Denton and McGlone, for the Rovers, and Edmondson and Oliver; for Huddersfield good seconds.
