FEATHERSTONE’S FINE RALLY

It was a splendid feat on the part Featherstone Rovers to defeat Broughton Rangers. At half-time the Yorkshiremen were four points in arrears, and it was only a gallant rally that ensured ultimate success.  

An excellent try by Hirst, the versatile wing three-quarter, reduced Featherstone's deficit to a single point with ten minutes still to play. The Rovers stayed the pace the better, and succeeded in reversing the position when James Denton kicked a penalty goal.  This small marginal advantage was further augmented in the last minute of the game as the outcome of a splendid sinuous run by Taylor, whose try was certainly the outstanding feature of the match. James Denton added the goal, and Featherstone Rovers proved victorious by a nice margin of six points.

For the winners, the brothers Denton were well in the picture, and there were no better workers than Taylor and Gill. McGlone, in spite of injury, was a splendid scrummage half, and Rudd was, in addition, a great asset. In the latter part of the game the Featherstone forwards played a prominent part, and Lorriman, Barraclough, and Wynard were undoubtedly a great trio.
