Featherstone Dash the Hopes of Hunslet

During the first half of the match, between Featherstone and Hunslet, the former were unquestionably the better side. Hunslet held their own in the loose, but were beaten for possession. J. Denton gave Featherstone the lead after eight minutes with a penalty goal, and McGlone put the side farther ahead with a try which followed a burst through the scrummage.

Hunslet yielded nothing without a struggle, and Feltham and Guerin were prominent in some fine defensive work. Following one of their rare visits to the Featherstone quarters, Guerin kicked a grand penalty goal.  Before the interval, Walsh, of Hunslet and Hepworth, of Featherstone, the respective “hookers,” were sent off evidently for scrummage infringement. They had previously been warned.

Fine play by J. Denton, who, along with Hirst, was the outstanding player of the back divisions, gave Featherstone a second try, and though Guerin scored brilliant try for Hunslet, this was more than balanced by a try for Featherstone scored by Haigh, and a penalty goal kicked by Denton.  

Coulson of Hunslet was tackled five yards from the line, following an individual effort, and later left the field. Feltham fell away in the second half, and amongst the backs none was a greater force than Corris.
