THE THIRD TIME

Featherstone Again Outpoint Wakefield

Wakefield Trinity are truly an extraordinary lot. After defeating Huddersfield on Saturday, on which day Featherstone Rovers were outpointed by Oldham, it was confidently expected that the Trinitarians would gain a victory over Featherstone at Belle Vue; but about 5,000 spectators, many of whom accompanied the Rovers, witnessed a game in which Featherstone played like winners from the start.

They invariably manage to make a good show against Wakefield, and for the third time this season they have defeated the Trinitarians, one of the matches being the final for the Clayton Hospital Cup. In the Trinity team was McAllister, a scrummage half back from the Widnes club; but he did nothing out of the ordinary, and, in the second half, he appeared as a centre three-quarter.

The Featherstone forwards played a very strong game, and in addition to showing a superiority in scrummage work, they were very active in loose play. There was also more enterprise about their back play, and the best men on the field were J. Hirst and J. Denton the former playing a clever game, and often outwitting the opposition. There was some fine full back play by Siswick (Wakefield) and S.Denton (Featherstone), and the Wakefield man was the most prominent player on his side.  It was a victory which was thoroughly deserved, and was secured by good football.
