FEATHERSTONE ROVERS GO DOWN AT SALFORD

Played at Salford before 4,000 spectators.  Within five minutes Keegan was successful in opening the score on behalf of Salford.  Molyneax failing at goal.  Soon afterwards Smith also crossed the visitors line, this time Molyneax landed the goal. The succeeding play to the interval was largely in favour of Featherstone, who only got their due reward when Kirkham after a magnificent run, notched an unimproved try in the corner.

When the sides crossed over, Salford who enjoyed a marginal advantage of five points, were extremely lucky to retain their lead. The Rovers exhibited wonderful all-round improvement and with ball trickling out of the pack, to the advantage of the rear division, the Salford defence for over twenty minutes was sorely taxed. Once Hirst ran half the length of the field before being stopped, and both Jim Denton and F. Gill had distinctly hard lines in not crossing the home line. Featherstone indulged in many sparkling bout's of passing, it was only unsteadiness in finishing that neutralised the majority of the good efforts.

Salford from a sudden break away scored unimproved try through Fuller, before Jim Denton ran over in deserved fashion for the Rovers, the same player failing at goal. In the last five minutes Muir and Wilkinson each scored tries for Salford, and Keegan added the goal points.
