WAKEFIELD TRINITY AT DEFEATED FEATHERSTONE
A "gate” of little over 4.000 saw Featherstone Rovers gain their third victory of the season. The play was of a moderate character, and often was uninteresting and without incident.
The Rovers opened in their usual dashing style, and their forwards pressed the Trinitarians. Clements tried a shot at goal from a penalty kick, but the wind defeated his attempt. Some quick smart work by Parkin set his three-quarters going, and Rosenfeld might have scored on the left had he been as fast as he once was. But for J. Denton's sound defence, Thompson would have got through on the other wing. Seymour, who was being tried at full back for Featherstone, distinguished himself on several occasions, but it obvious the defence could not hold out indefinitely. Parkin made a characteristic cut through, and his pass sent Brennan away on the wing. A clever inside pass gave Thompson an opportunity to show his speed, and he scored under the posts. Parkin added the goal. Within five minutes J. Denton, with fine individualistic effort, put the sides on level terms. He picked up near the half-way line, and showed a clean pair of heels to all pursuers. Then he landed a good goal. Featherstone did most of the attacking from this point to the interval, and J. Denton gave them the lead with a penalty goal. Thompson should have scored for Wakefield. He made a great run through the Featherstone team, and with an open line lost the ball. Featherstone were two pointsin the lead at the interval.
The second half was entirely the home team's. In the forwards they were vastly superior to Wakefield but there was no further scoring owing to indifferent back play.
