LOST CHANCES AT FEATHERSTONE UNEXPECTED DEFEAT OF ROVERS

Hull KR have struck an unlucky patch recently, and their successive and unexpected defeats by York and Featherstone have for the time being deposed them from their position in the first four.   The absence of McGiever against Featherstone disorganised the Rovers' team, and though they had plenty of opportunity in the first quarter to make the result certain, they unaccountably failed to grasp their opportunities. Credit must be given to the Colliers for their fine defence in this critical period. In the closing stages the Robins were outplayed and outpaced, the Colliers giving their best display of the season. Their passing at times was fine, but the secret of their success was their skill as opportunists. Hirst, a second "Batten," so the Colliers believe, was in great form, as also were the Colliers' "Terrible Six."

In the loose the Featherstone forwards excelled, and their terrific rushes and vigorous tackling fully entitled them to take up the mantle of the "Terrible Six."

Moore, as scrum half, made some brilliant individual efforts, but there was lack of cohesion in the Rovers' third line, which proved disasterous. Both Cook and Austin were far from their best, and in consequence Harris and Mulvey had few opportunities to shine.  Not one man of the Colliers spared one ounce of energy, and if Hirst, Wynard and Denton were often conspicuous, they were not in any way superior to their colleagues.  Westerdale was the Robins' most conspicuous figure, though the Colliers' supporters did not seem to appreciate his keen, but perfectly clean, methods.
