DETERMINED OPPOSITION BY THE ROVERS

Though Featherstone were beaten at Thrum Hall by six points to nil, they gave Halifax plenty of play, and throughout held on with remarkable determination. The field was barely fit for play, being well covered with snow, making quick movement very difficult. There were 5,000 spectators. The opening stages saw the home forwards having the best of matters. The visitors were compelled to defend most of the first half, but they tackled finely, and playing the spotting game, held Halifax out. Their back division were seen to advantage in defence, while Seymour, the full back, consistently rendered excellent service by timely returns and good touch-finding. The home men should have scored at least three times, but twice Bowman, playing centre to Stacey, slipped when near the line, and also fell when about to touch down, while Kirkham cleared.

Beginning the second half pointless each way, the visitors gave a rousing exhibition, the tackling of their forwards being very prominent. Twice they came near the home line, but Garforth was too watchful. A quarter of hour of the second half had passed before there was a score. Stacey, after a short run, transferred Garforth who ran over the line.  He failed at goal. The second and only other try of the match came from Ackroyd, who crossed the line after Turnbull had made the opening.  Again Garforth failed with kick. Halifax also had hard lines in three other instances.
