FEATHERSTONE’S MARCH

Featherstone Rovers are proving themselves resourceful on their own ground. Their form against Salford on Saturday was as to such leave no doubt as to the inferiority of the Red Rose representatives.

The game was notable for the great success at centre of Taylor Johnson, Dewsbury, who was making his first appearance for Featherstone.  He scored two of their three tries, the first a very pretty effort, and his cleverness at taking passes, and his general all-round play, won high praise. Another debut, and almost equally as successful, was that made D. Cartwright, the Pudsey Rugby forward, for this was his first game with Featherstone and of course his introduction to the Northern Union code. He likewise gave great satisfaction. The changing of J. Williams from centre to scrum-half was another good move.

The Rovers played much the smarter football when the ball became loose, and although they led by three points only at half-time, they had almost monopolised matters.  Jack Hirst’s play at centre was brilliant. He made the opening for Denton’s try and in the second half took the ball to the line for Johnson to score.
