FEATHERSTONE'S PLUCKY DISPLAY ST. HELENS

For their League game at St. Helens, Featherstone were without Denton, Seymour, and Kirkham. Despite this set-back, and a score of 21 point to nil being registered against them in the opening half when they faced wind, they gave a good account of themselves in the second portion, when their forwards played a brilliant game, and easily mastered the Saints for possession the of the ball.  St Helens played their Welsh importations, and early on G. Lewis distinguished himself in dropping a goal. Immediately afterwards G. Lewis gave to Stanley Lewis to complete a try which Fairclough failed to augment.  Briers next threw to Gormley, who raced over with a try.  Fairhurst failing to convert.  Clarey next scored for St. Helens, for G. Lewis to add the extra points. Bradbury followed with two tries, one of which G. Lewis improved.

In the second half Featherstone had more of the ball.  Hirst sending Denton over for a try, Smith failing with the goal.   Gormley followed with an unimproved try for St. Helens, and after this Featherstone had matters all their own way. Hirst and Denton scored tries, one of which Smith improved, and in the closing minutes St. Helens were penalised, and Smith landed an easy goal.
