FEATHERSTONE TURN THE TABLES ON ST. HELENS

In a game which produced an inordinate amount of penalties, Featherstone Rovers obtained ample revenge for the defeat which a weakened side sustained at St. Helen the previous week. Featherstone almost monopolised play in the first half, and before the game was five minutes old, Wynard, with a lovely kick from the touch-line put the home side in front.  The game was spoiled by the great number of irregularities committed by both teams. From a penalty for off-side play Smith, with a neat kick, gave Featherstone their second goal.  Seymour marked cleverly at the touch-line side, and Wynard put Featherstone further ahead. The Featherstone backs were occasionally conspicuous with very pretty passing movements, and from one those Hirst scored about 20 yards out, after a brilliant run which completely nonplussed the St Helens defenders to score the try.  Wynard failed to convert.

In the second half Fairhurst reduced the Rovers' lead with a penalty goal, but Smith replied with another for Featherstone.  Fairhurst kicked another penalty near the close and when the final whistle sounded Featherstone were attacking hotly the visitors' line.
