TWO PLAYERS SENT OFF

About 3.000 spectators watched this postponed fixture at Clarence Street last night. There was a great struggle for supremacy.  At times some the players showed a little too much zeal, and shortly after the interval Ashton (York) and Barraclough (Featherstone) were sent off. Whilst the game was marked by more keenness than science it was not without its attractive features in the passing line, though in the first half the Featherstone backs kicked too much. The forwards were fairly well matched, except the matter of gaining possession where York held the advantage, and it was to this fact they largely owed their victory.

In the first half tries were scored for York by Ashton (2) and A. Corsi, and Mckewan kicked two goals.  The only score to Featherstone being a penalty goal kicked by Smith.  On resuming Farrar increased York's lead with a fine try, but then came a great revival by the losers.  Williams and Hirst scoring tries in rapid succession, one being converted Smith.  Just before the finish McEwan added a penalty goal for York.
