FEATHERSTONE’S GAMENESS

Huddersfield played delightful, open football in the first half, their passing, with Rogers and Wagstaff as the moving spirits, bewildering the Featherstone backs. In this half McTighe scored twice, his second being a beautiful finish to a good movement, and Sherwood and Fullerton also got over.  Gronow had “off day" and missed all but one of the place-kicks.

For Featherstone James Denton kicked a nice penalty goal. Featherstone more than held their own in the second half, and deserved at least three tries on their play. They had to wait until the last minute to increase their score, Woolley going over from a forward rush. The goal-kick failed.

Early in the second half May scored a magnificent try after grand passing and running by Reed and McTighe.  Gronow again failed. A great feature was the excellent display at full back by Norman Wagstaff, who saved time and time again when Featherstone were dangerous. There was nothing to choose in the forwards except that Huddersfield had the better “hooker." Rogers was much too smart for the Featherstone halves, and Harold Wagstaff was as brainy as ever.

Williams and Hirst tackled magnificently for Featherstone. There was a record League "gate" of six thousand.
