FEATHERSTONE’S BRILLIANT FINISH

 Around three thousand spectators saw some exciting and pretty football in Featherstone Rovers last home match of the season, with Barrow as the opponents. The Lancastrians seemed to have a big advantage in physique and started very confidently.  Featherstone, however, also started gamely and after Williams had given them the lead with a clever dropped goal they never looked back. Before the interval Williams had scored a try.  Clements brushed off four opponents and scored by sheer weight.  James Denton converted these tries and added a smart penalty goal.

In the second half Clements added another and after a passing movement by the Featherstone third line, amongst whom Hirst and Sidney Denton were the pick, the latter scored.  Neither try was converted.  Barrow never gave up the ghost but they were simply beaten by a smarter all-round team. The visitors had some very good individual players notably Wallace.  Gunning scored smartly for them.  None of the three tries scored in this half were converted.
