Rovers fired early, pressuring a goal line drop-out which eventually resulted in a a Gareth Gale try, the returning Aekins key in the build up with the show and go.  Minutes later it was the turn of the right hand edge to contribute, Lacans finding Leilua whose signature flick pass found the debutant Kyle Evans on the wing who scampered through for his first Rovers try. Rovers took an early setback with Gadwin Springer being removed from the field with a leg injury, rendering Sean Long to three interchange options. The visitors bit back mid way through the half, James Greenwood on loan from neighbouring Salford forced his way over, Dan Abram adding the conversion. Rovers took control again before half time, Josh Hardcastle finding the whitewash after a fine pass from Thomas Lacans. 16-6 to the good at half time. Despite a scrappy first half, Rovers always looked in control.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Rovers faced adversity yet again as Joey Leilua was shown a yellow card for obstruction.  Rovers did more than weather the storm, a fine break from Hardcastle found Thomas Lacans who raced half the field to score. Seven minutes after Leilua returned to the field, Rovers were again down to twelve men as Mathieu Cozza was shown the yellow card. Again, the Rovers rallied, Connor Jones this time finding the tryline with a little over ten minutes to go.  Rovers finished with a flurry, another flick pass from Leilua found Kyle Evans for his second try of the afternoon before Caleb Aekins scored in the final seconds of the game.
