An impressive tackling show for Featherstone Rovers paved the way for a sixth successive league win, beating Batley 28-8 in a tough contest to maintain a ten-point lead at the top of the table.

Rovers controlled the first quarter, and took the lead when Elijah Taylor came onto Matty Wildie’s pass close to the line. Wildie then helped himself to a try, darting over from acting halfback. With Chris Hankinson adding both conversions, Rovers were 12-0 up. The first wave of substitutions saw the momentum swing Batley’s way and Rovers were forced to defend numerous repeated sets on their own line. Shortly before the break, Batley did cross out wide for their opening score.

After the break Rovers reasserted control and put the game beyond the visitors with two further converted tries. Mathieu Cozza slipped out a superb offload for Daniel Smith to stroll over, and then Arama Hau twisted over from short range. At 24-4, the game was safe. Although Batley scored out wide again after quick hands, it was Rovers who had the last word when an intelligent kick through by Hankinson was collected by Hau for his second try.
