FEATHERSTONE FORCE HUDDERSFIELD TO TIGHT FINISH

The last match of the season at Fartown was played yesterday morning and attracted only 4,000 spectators. Huddersfield had to play a depleted side, and an injury to Rogers early in the game further handicapped the home team.  Huddersfield played good football, and in the end fully merited their victory of ten points.  In the first half they dominated the attack, and Seymour, the Featherstone full back, had several difficult situations to contend with.

Two minutes from the start McTighe after a good run, scored far out, and maintaining the aggressive Huddersfield added further tries through Swinden and May. The latter ran half the length of the field before grounding the ball, and his effort will rank as one of the best seen at this season.

Featherstone improved considerably after the change over, and good work in the loose by their forwards kept Huddersfield defensive. Williams was particularly smart, and after being unfortunate several occasions, he at last succeeded in piercing the Huddersfield defence, and J. Denton converted.  The deficit was further reduced by a good try by S. Denton.  At this period Featherstone were playing good football, but Huddersfield made the issue safe five minutes from the end, when Hallam forced his way over after a fine individual effort.  Gronow, during the game, converted three tries for Huddersfield.
