HUDDERSFIELD ACCOUNT FOR FEATHERSTONE ROVERS

Huddersfield, playing at home, easily gained their second victory of the season when Featherstone Rovers were defeated before a crowd of seven thousand spectators. In the first half Featherstone were troubled by the strong sun, and they were subject what was practically continuous attack. Their principle efforts were a series of spasmodic individual breakaways, and on two occasions they should have pierced the home defence.  Kirkham, after a sparkling run, had the Huddersfield backs in a tangle, but clung to the ball instead of presenting his colleagues with a gift try, and Haigh also failed to gather a pass when he had no opposition to meet. On the other hand, Huddersfield were continually making openings, but their passing movements repeatedly broke down when tries seemed imminent. In the first half Gronow (2), Howarth and Rogers scored tries, and Gronow kicked a penalty goal. J Denton kicked two penalty goals for Featherstone.

In the second half play deteriorated, and combined efforts were at a discount. Huddersfield maintained their superiority, and Harrison, Clark, and Wagstaff added tries.  Gronow kicked two further goals, and Rogers also landed a penalty kick.  Woolley scored Featherstone's only try this half, and Wynard kicked both goals.
