KEIGHLEY TOO GOOD FOR FEATHERSTONE IN MODERATE GAME

Featherstone Rovers who visited Lawkholme Lane on Saturday, found Keighley too good for them, and they had to admit defeat 15 points to nil. With the exception of the last quarter of an hour, when Keighley played really fine football, the game was only moderate neither side showing their best form.

Keighley, however, did nearly all the pressing, Featherstone seldom getting to within striking distance of their opponents’ line. Keighley’s strength lay in the good loose play of the forwards, and the work of the three-quarters, who were quicker on the ball and more forceful in their methods than their opponents.  In Craven, who again played at wing three-quarter, Keighley have a young player of undoubted promise. He has something to learn yet in the way of taking passes, but he runs and tackles well, and it was due to an opening of his that Rorison was able to score Keighley’s first try.  No one in the Keighley forward line played better than Rorison, who, on his present form, is the best loose forward Keighley have had for some time. He is a hard worker and can snap up the ball in clever fashion.

Long and Davies also played well, while at half back Foster and Pearson contributed one or two good individual efforts. The fact that Featherstone had so little of the play was more the fault of the backs than the forwards, who kept getting possession from the scrummages.  Hirst was badly missed from the three-quarter line.  Denton and Williams were often prominent, but their efforts were not properly supported. Kirkham and Morgan worked hard at half back.
