BATLEY IN FINE FORM AT FEATHERSTONE

Batley's visit to Featherstone attracted about 4,000 spectators.  Davidge returned to the visiting side, and a trial was given by Featherstone to Trevor Hale, of Hunslet.  Jack Hirst went to half back—a position which is giving the Rovers' committee much anxiety. Although the Batley forwards were repeatedly beaten for possession, their backs were little troubled thereby, and inter-passing by Williams and Gallagher resulted in Gallagher scoring after 12 minutes' play. The same player converted. Williams followed a kick by Rees and won the race over the line. This was immediately followed by a brilliant score from Davidge, after an opening by Rees. Gallagher improved both tries. Before the interval Rees smartly intercepted a pass, and sent Carter over with a try.

Featherstone gave a vastly improved exhibition in the second half, which was marked by some brilliant bursts by Hirst, who, however, was badly supported. A try by Douglas, which Gallagher converted, was followed by clever Featherstone tries by Clements and Hale, Wynard converting one. Two minutes from time Murray got over after Robinson had tackled S.Denton in possession.
