AN “IF” FOR DEWSBURY

If Joe Lyman had not been injured during the first half, the Dewsbury team might have done more than draw with Featherstone.  Yet if Robertshaw had been able to stay in the pack Dewsbury could not have done better than they did with their live forwards, for throughout the game they got possession five times in six.

Featherstone were fortunate to be in front after about ten minutes’ play, but thereafter they put up a very stout defence to the Dewsbury attacks, though before the interval Sykes equalised. In the second half James Denton, with a penalty goal, once more gave the Rovers the lead, but James Lyman, with fifteen teen minutes’ go, made the score five points all.

Sykes, the Browns, and Lyman on the one side, and Burton on the Featherstone side were the outstanding players.
