Featherstone Improve on a Shaky Start

After giving their supporters some anxious moments, Featherstone beat Keighley by five points, and twice that margin would not have flattered the winners. Keighley were leading at the interval by one point, despite the fact that for fully two-thirds of this half they were kept busy defending their line. Featherstone were weakened by the absence of Hirst, Williams, and McGlone, and their half backs Richardson and Gill, were unused to the position. The Keighley forwards, however, were well beaten, and Featherstone ought to have been ten points before they crossed over, had there been better finish in their movements.

In the first half, Holmes, who, with few opportunities shine, played a delightful game for Keighley, scored a brilliant try from an opening by Foster, and J. Denton kicked a penalty goal for Featherstone.  In the second half the Rovers quickly asserted their superiority, and J. Denton scored a fine try.  This was followed by an equally fine try by S. Denton. Wynard, who had three times hit the upright, kicked a penalty goal, and Pearson, with a like goal for Keighley, wound up the scoring.

The brothers Denton made a delightful wing, and were outstanding players; and tribute must also be paid to Taylor, a young player who gives every promise of developing into a first-class centre. Holmes and Craven, who had to play behind a beaten pack, were excellent wingers for Keighley, for whom Pearson and Rorison also played well.
