After a fourteen year career in Super League spanning five different clubs, Brett Ferres came to Featherstone from Leeds in the twilight of his career in 2020. An England international, he represented his country at the 2013 World Cup and in the 2014 Four Nations. He was a Grand final winner with Leeds in 2017. With Rovers, his first season was cut short by the Covid pandemic, but in 2021 under coach James Webster he quickly began to show his value. Nailing down a second-row spot, he showed all the savvy and experience required at Championship level, refusing to allow his side to be bullied and setting the platform for a talented backline to score freely. Standing in as captain when James Lockwood was off, he grabbed nine tries for himself, and even rolled back the years with a couple of goal kicks. Always in the thick of the action, his contribution in defeat in the Grand final against Toulouse was particularly noteworthy. He managed a further 17 games in 2022 despite being troubled by a recurring knee injury.
