A forward from the Wakefield area, Harry Dooler played for Sharlston and signed for Featherstone in January 1921 after serving in the army. It must have been a controversial move as relations between the two clubs were strained at the time, due to some rough encounters. Within a few weeks of signing, Dooler was sent off in a Challenge Cup tie against Dewsbury.

When Featherstone Rovers moved into the senior league that September, Dooler became one of the Thirteen Originals who represented the club in their first ever senior match.  Contemporary press reports described him as a "clever" hooker.  He was only with Rovers for 11 senior games when he was transferred to York in December 1921 as a result of "differences" with the Rovers Committee. He later played for Wakefield Trinity.

After stopping playing he became manager and steward at various licenced premises throughout Yorkshire.
