Featherstone Rovers signed prop forward John Gregory from Sheffield RUFC. A schoolteacher, he was understandably raw at first, but merited a first team opportunity by dint of his efforts for the A team. He had a first team baptism of fire, getting his nose broken on his debut. After a year at Featherstone he moved to Doncaster, and then to Sheffield in their debut season.
