Featherstone Rovers signed Welsh centre Lou Davies from Wakefield Trinity at the beginning of the 1938/9 season. A tricky and speedy centre, who could also play stand-off, he also played for the fledgling Newcastle club in 1937. As with many rugby players approaching the end of their careers the pub trade was an attractive option and Lou Davies took over "The New Dusty Miller Hotel" near Wakefield Kirkgate station in February 1939 whilst at Rovers.  Despite the interruption of the war and his role as a licensee, he served Rovers well for three seasons.
