After beginning his career at Warrington, then London, half-back Morgan Smith had missed the entire 2021 season at York before signing for Featherstone for 2022. The grandson of Rovers legend Peter Smith, Morgan immediately claimed a first team spot and struck up a good halfback partnership with Australian Ryley Jacks. Smith built his game around good distribution, a capable kicking game and, above all, an eye for a gap in the defensive line. This led to him scoring 22 tries and he finished as the club's joint leading try scorer. A virtual ever-present, he was surprisingly left out for the final two games of the season, and moved back to Super League at Wakefield Trinity in the off-season.
