Originally from Belle Isle, Hunslet, Neil Lowe signed for Featherstone in 1997, part of a crop of good young forwards recruited around the same time. Those youngsters, Lowe, Stuart Dickens, Richard Chapman and Steve Dooler were to serve Rovers well over the next decade. After the briefest of apprenticeships, Lowe slotted into the Rovers first team squad, used in his early years at second-row or off the bench.  He learned how to run good lines to great effect and this, allied to his speed, brought him plenty of tries, 11 in the 2000 season and 13 in 2001.

It was in 2002 that he career really took off, his 25 tries that season inevitably attracting the attention of Super League clubs. However, he joined newly-relegated Salford for 2003 and helped them win the title. Form and fitness prevented him from winning a place in their top flight squad, so he came back to Featherstone and resumed his career at Post Office Road. After over 200 first team games it was with some disappointment that he left Rovers after relegation to National League Two. He later played for Doncaster, York, Keighley and Hunslet having made the transition to front-row forward.
He qualified for Scotland under heritage rules and won seven caps for his adopted country. He played at the 2008 World Cup.
