Wakefield youngster Ryan Horsley was signed by Featherstone Rovers for the 1999 as a solution to the perennial problem of stand-off at the club. Half-back from 1998 Ty Fallins had returned to Australia, and new coach Kevin Hobbs paired Horsley with Paddy Handley in the halves. Despite his best efforts Horsley struggled in a team that was not gelling. Hobbs lost his job, and new coach Peter Roe tried talented young scrum-half Jamie Rooney in tandem with Handley and Horsley lost his place. The following year he moved to Batley where he played for a number of seasons with distinction.
