When Sid Denton sustained a fractured rib in his first match of the 1924/25 season Knottingley youngster Thomas Bugg was given a trial in his place.  He went straight into the first team without the usual run in the A team for the next home game against Keighley.  Whilst Rovers won the game Bugg did not keep his place in the side.  He was given one further trial game a few weeks later but was not retained.
