A Sharlston-based miner, Tommy Fox came through the intermediates to play a number of seasons on the fringes of the first team at Featherstone. Perhaps his greatest day was late in his career when he captained amateur club Sharlston Rovers to a famous Challenge Cup victory over Workington Town in 1946. His lasting gift to rugby league though was the amazing talents of his three sons: Peter Fox, coaching mastermind of the 1970s and 1980s, Don Fox, Featherstone legend, Hall of Famer and all-time leading try-scorer; and Neil Fox, a points machine for Wakefield Trinity and Great Britain, one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen.
