Signed from Batley in October 1921, Tom Wynard’s arrival was perhaps recognition that the Rovers pack, new to the senior league, needed a little nous and experience to guide it. Wynard certainly provided this, as the veteran forward slotted into the back-row, offering solid defence, scrum push and hard work. Another important string to his bow was his goal-kicking ability. His 35 goals in 1922/3 was second only to the prolific Jim Denton, and he returned a similar figure in 1923/4.
After three years and just over 100 first team appearances, he played his final game in November 1924, before stepping down a level to play for his home town Normanton in the Yorkshire Senior competition.
