Castleford born winger Alan Marchant made a single appearance for his hometown team but then moved to Featherstone that same season. He had a stop start three year career at Featherstone, with no shortage of competition for wing spots, with player coach Eric Batten, Ray Cording and Norman Mitchell all in contention. He later joined the coaching staff at Castleford, and both his sons Billy and Tony Marchant (a Great Britain international) played professionally.

Confusingly, Featherstone Rovers had two players called Alan Marchant playing for the club in 1955/56 and 1956/57. The other Alan was a scrum-half.
