Signed from rugby union in January 1960 after a successful trial Alan Pool made an impressive start to his A team career with 8 tries in 4 appearances.  When Frank Smith was injured shortly before the 1960  Challenge Cup semi final v Wakefield Trinity at Odsal, he found himself playing in front of 55,000 people in only his third appearance.  Rovers lost and Alan Pool played only 2 more games before his first team career was over.
