23 year old Alan Simpson was signed from Castleford RU before the start of the 1966/67 season.  Alan and John Newlove both made their senior debuts in a game at home against Keighley in November 1966.  Alan scored a try on debut thanks to a break by Mal Dixon and played a handful more games that season.  However, his progress was not as rapid as that of Newlove and he was released by the club at the end of the season.  He signed for York the following year.
