Alan Watts made his first team debut as a scrum half stand-in for Carl Dooler during the 1967 cup run when key players were left out of games before the cup-ties.  He was well thought of and his presence meant Steve Nash's first five appearances for Rovers were as a stand-off. Inevitably though, he wasn't going to be able to hold the scrum half berth ahead of Nash and consequently moved on to Batley.
