Youngster Albert Burton was signed from Lofthouse RL club in November 1923, debuting at full-back on Christmas Day 1923 at Hunslet, displacing Sid Denton. He attracted warm reviews, after one match the comments included “He certainly did very well for a youngster. His only flaw was a weakness in tackling, and if this defect can be remedied, then Burton can develop into a first class full-back and a worthy successor to Sidney Denton”. In the end, it didn’t work out that way as, after a spell on the wing, Denton was moved back to full-back and Burton’s time in the Rovers’ first team was over.
