Albert “Happy” Jacobs joined Rovers from the same Fitzwilliam Intermediates team as Walter Parkin. As a fresh-faced teenager, tall and athletic, he looked set for a long and successful career at Featherstone, and was immediately given a chance in the first team. Within months, everything had changed with the outbreak of war. Jacobs joined the Coldstream Guards and consequently only made occasional appearances during the war when home on leave. After he was demobbed from the Army in November 1945, he started playing rugby again at Rovers and played the majority of the remaining games that season. However, in the summer of 1946 he accepted the offer of a job and flat in London, ending his Rovers career. In eight seasons he managed just 41 games and we can only speculate as to how many more that would have been had it not been for World War Two.
