Alvan Bell’s debut was reported in the press as ‘a successful debut from an unnamed Intermediate trialist’ and he marked the occasion with a well-taken try against St. Helens. He followed this up with a second try in his next appearance, which was enough to convince the Rovers committee to sign him from Sandal Intermediates. Unfortunately once signed his Rovers career was brief and he didn't cross the whitewash again, appearing intermittently in the three-quarter line over the next year without establishing a first team spot.
