Second row forward Andrew Mortimer signed for Rovers in 1980 from amateur club Hemsworth Miners Welfare.  He was the son of former Wakefield Trinity full back Frank Mortimer.  He received a first team call up from coach Allan Agar for his debut at Bradford in October 1983 after some promising A team displays. It was to be his only first team chance as Rovers signed veterans Geoff Clarkson and Charlie Stone later that season to bolster the pack.
