Local hooker Andy Heptinstall came through the junior ranks at Featherstone, making his debut in the transitional Centenary season. An intelligent distributor, he had a long apprenticeship, playing just five games in his first three years. Under coach Peter Roe, the concept of interchanging hookers came into fashion, and Heptinstall’s skills were used alternatively with Richard Chapman to great effect for Rovers. After he lost his place at the beginning of the 2002 season, he moved to Batley.
