Barry Charlesworth first attracted the attention of Rovers when he played for Yorkshire Juniors in a match at Post Office Road in 1955. They attempted to sign him but he joined his home club Leeds. When he was transfer listed by Leeds in 1960 the Rovers moved in to sign him for £250 and he scored a try on debut and immediately formed an effective wing partnership with Ken Greatorex. He went on to make 19 successive appearances scoring 11 tries. He was missing from the Rovers lineup for the first time at Doncaster in April, when sciatica in his back was the reason given for his absence. After such an auspicious start it was frustrating to be both club and player that despite treatment and being cleared by doctors to resume light training on two occasions, was unable to resume his career. He never played for Rovers again, but resurfaced at Castleford four years later for a short spell. (RB)
