Full-back Ben Cockayne grew up in Normanton, and was a later starter. He was 23 before he got his first contract, at Doncaster under St.John Ellis. He did well enough to attract the attention of Hull KR. In 2011, after six seasons and nearly 150 games at Craven Park he was released early from his contract with the Robins to play out the season at Featherstone. On the wing at Featherstone, his nine game run yielded 11 tries as Rovers ran away with the Grand Final. He then signed for Wakefield for a couple of seasons, went back to Hull KR and later had spells at York and Doncaster, clocking up 300+ professional games.
