Biography
When Ivor Lingard unexpectedly emigrated to Australia in the 1963/4 season Rovers struggled to find a replacement. When Bill Bennett was given an opportunity to claim the stand-off position in March 1965 no fewer than six players had previously been tried. Bill who signed from Knottingley RU club did ok but failed to convince, and Mick Smith became the regular number six.
