In the time honoured tradition of giving local youngsters their chance, wingman Bill Rowley was signed from Featherstone Juniors in January 1933 and given a six match run in the first team towards the end of that season to see what he could do. His centre partner was another local youngster, Johnny Malpass. Rowley spent most of the following year with the reserves as the first team preferred veteran Jim Denton and Ralph Asquith. 1934/5 was Rowley’s best season, although a run of 20 first team games yielded just three tries in a side that was struggling desperately at the bottom of the league. His final career tally was 37 games over four seasons, with just five tries.
